Three Team Trade in the Works Involving Anquan Boldin and Brandon Marshall

There is no denying that Broncos WR Brandon Marshall and Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin want to be traded and they both may get their wish this week.  The rumor going around is that a deal is in the works involving the Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals, and Denver Broncos.

The proposed trade would be as folllows:

Arizona Cardinals

Brandon Marshall

Note:  This is a good trade for Arizona as they would get rid of disgruntled Anquan Boldin, Marshall would get a fresh start, and the Cardinals would retain the top WR tandem in the NFL.

Kansas City Chiefs

Anquan Boldin

Note:  The Chiefs gain a top fifteen WR to play opposite of Dwayne Bowe which is a great deal.  One question I do have is why are the Chiefs getting Boldin without giving up any players or draft picks?

Denver Broncos

Matt Leinart

Note:  Yes, the Broncos need a QB as Kyle Orton may not be able to open the regular season with his injured finger, but is it really worth giving up Marshall?  While Marshall may not be the best teammate, the Broncos can get more for Marshall than a QB that will only start a game here or there.

While no trade is fair across the board, I have a hard time believing that these three teams would go for this trade.  Let's take a look at what a fair trade would look like:

Arizona Cardinals

Brandon Marshall

Tyler Thigpen

Chiefs' 5th round pick

Note:   The main difference here is the Cardinals get Tyler Thigpen who will be a solid QB backing up Kurt Warner and the Cardinals would lose Matt Leinart.

Kansas City Chiefs

Anquan Boldin

Note:  At least the Chiefs' are doing their part in this trade by giving up a 1st and 5th round pick.

Denver Broncos

Matt Leinart

Chiefs' 1st round pick

Note:  This deal looks much better for the Broncos as they will get Leinart,  who will back-up Orton and  a #1 draft pick.

So what will be the fantasy impact of this trade?  Leinart and Thigpen are irrelevant as they will be their teams back-up, but I would not expect WR1 fantasy numbers from Marshall or Boldin right away as they will be learning a new system.  A player that is not involved in this trade but will see his fantasy stock rise is Broncos WR Eddie Royal.  With Marshall out of the picture, Royal will inherit the #1 position on the depth chart and should be elevated in most fantasy drafts.  Will this trade happen?  Only time will tell, but I do think that Boldin and Marshall will start the regular season with a new team.
