BJ VanderWoudeTrends and Tips for Week 13...
Fred Jackson is Back
Interim coach Perry Fewell has made a point of starting Jackson over Marshawn Lynch, and it makes perfect sense considering Jackson has been the more effective back. He received 20 touches and responded with 116 total yards as well as a TD. Lynch should still see some carries, but not enough to make him a starter in any format. I am a huge fan of Fred Jackson and consider him a must start going forward. He should provide a great spark going into the playoffs and has the ability to put up monster numbers in PPR leagues.
Percy Harvin Coming On
Luckily for fantasy owners who have Minnesota Vikings players, they are involved in a crazy race with the New Orleans Saints for home field advantage and will have to play their starters down the stretch. Harvin has scored in 3 of his last 4 games and had his first 100 yard game this past weekend, but I guarantee it will not be his last this season. Brett Favre has shown he has confidence in Harvin, something that is rare in a rookie, so expect him to continue to put up points.
Fitzgerald Poised for Big Stretch
Kurt Warner's injury was a big blow to the value of Fitzgerald, Boldin and Breaston, but despite Matt Leinarts shortcomings, Arizona has a very favorable schedule down the stretch. After Minnesota this week (19th), they have SanFran (28) Detroit (32) and St.Louis (22) so do not put too much in this past week as Fitzgerald should get Warner back soon, and either way he has the talent to put up big numbers regardless who is behind center.
Young and the Winless
Vince Young has earned my respect, I never expected him to produce the way he has from a fantasy standpoint. Forget the five straight wins, putting up 387 yards passing was something I thought I'd see as a three week total from him. In their first five games Tennessee scored 84 points, while in their last five games they have scored 145 points. Vince Young has always been a winner, but if he can continue to stand in the pocket the way he did in the second half against Arizona, he has a shot at being a somewhat traditional NFL QB, and maybe even a fantasy starter.
Too Late for Maroney?
Laurence Maroney's career has been a bust thus far, but since being handed the #1 RB spot on the account of injuries to Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris, he has done the most of his opportunities scoring 8 TD's in his last 6 games and averaging 70 yards per game on the ground. He is being used in all situations and has been a force in the red zone, so expect NE to lean heavily on Maroney in the bad weather weeks ahead.
