Jansen had been one of Detroit's most consistent tackles, but OT Gosder Cherilus had played better as training camp wore on and OT Corey Hilliard offers them flexibility with the ability to play both right and left tackle.

"He's got to get in football shape," Shanahan said. "For the same reasons we've talked about. We got to get him some playing time so he can get back in football shape. I got to take a look at the film to tell you exactly how he played, but that's one of the reasons he's playing defensive end and nose tackle positions." Haynesworth was playing well into the fourth quarter in the game, alongside third-string players and others that had no hope of making Washington's final roster.

RB Leon Washington (leg) was held out of the team's preseason finale, while RB Julius Jones was given the starting nod. Jones had six carries for 18 yards and didn't show any sort of burst, but the offensive line didn't open many holes for him, either. RB Justin Forsett rushed for 31 yards on six carries, but he was running behind the starting offensive line and going against reserve defenders at that point.
